How to Become a Christian

Realize that God is Holy and that man is separated from Him by our sin. Sin is everything that is not holy and not according to God’s Will for you. - "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

God wants a relationship with you. God created you and He loves you.  - "God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8

Only God can save us from our sin. None of the good works we do can cover our sins. - "He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy." Titus 3:5

There is nothing we can do to become righteous on our own. God’s gift to us is His Son, Jesus who died for our sins and paid the price to redeem us. We must claim that gift by believing in Jesus alone for our salvation. Our good works can not save us. - "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

We have a choice to believe or not to believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior. The Bible tells us that there is a literal Heaven and a literal Hell. In Heaven we are with God and in Hell we are separated from God forever. No second chances after we die. The result of our choice will decide our eternal destiny.  We must turn from our sin and ask for forgiveness.- "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23

God tells us it is through our faith in Jesus Christ that we are cleansed from our sin. - "If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Romans 10:9-10

Jesus died for all mankind’s sins. The price was paid in full, but the gift of salvation is not ours automatically, we must accept the Gift. - "For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16

Suggested Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I do not deserve eternal life. But, I believe You died and rose from the grave to purchase a place in Heaven for me. Jesus, come into my life, take control of my life, forgive my sins and save me. I am now placing my trust in You alone for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life."

If you decided to receive Jesus today, welcome to God's family. Now, as a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment.
  • Get baptized as commanded by Christ.
  • Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ. Call a pastor or a Christian friend and share your decision with them. They will help you to start learning more about how to grow in your personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time. Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible.
  • Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus. Develop a group of believing friends to answer your questions and support you.
  • Find a local church where you can worship God.
