Be Still
“Wait for the LORD; be courageous and let your heart be strong.
Wait for the LORD!” – Psalm 27:14
I do not like waiting very much. I really don’t know anyone who likes waiting in a line. We don’t like waiting for good things because we have been conditioned to want everything right now. Why is it so hard to wait?
Many of us think that waiting on something is doing nothing at all. It is actually just the opposite as it is an activity. It is a quiet, yet active stillness. When we wait upon the Lord it becomes a definite focusing of our attention on God. We are waiting for Him to change something in our lives to the better or to guide us in a difficult decision. We know we can find God’s direction by reading His Word and knowing that it applies to us right in our present circumstances. Sometimes it is those very circumstances that God uses to speak to us by changing them in one direction or another. A word of caution in that not all changes in your circumstances is a Word from God, so you must rely on the Holy Spirit to provide discernment.
No matter the reason you find yourself waiting upon the Lord, you can be sure that God has a definite reason for asking you to wait. God loves us and wants the best for us. He is merciful many times over. Our part is to trust God and not try to resolve things on our own strength and mess it all up! Remember that as hard as waiting can seem to us, God is trying to teach us something. Many times He asks us to wait so that we will do the next step in His timing and not our own. Even when we try doing good things if it is not in God’s timing it is wrong and is not His best plans for us. Trust and wait. Wait and Trust.
Be still so God can give clear direction. Be still so He can strengthen our faith. Be still as He prepares you for all that he has in store for you. Be still and wait on the Lord!
